One of the underrated components of the Galaxy Note 20 series is its usage of Gorilla Glass Victus. Think of this as Gorilla Glass 7, the latest innovation from Corning. And this release is a big deal, delivering protection without sacrifices.
There are two common types of glass damage: scratches and cracks. Sadly, the two are inversely correlated, so Corning has always had to sacrifice one to improve the other. Gorilla Glass 6 is an excellent example of this — it could withstand multiple drops from one meter, but leaving it in your purse or pocket would result in a scratch or two.
Gorilla Glass Victus is the first generation to improve both. Your Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra can survive high drops and resist scratches, giving it the ultimate protection.
Stronger Against Drops & Scratches
Scratch protection has been a weak spot in previous iterations of Gorilla Glass. Corning continues to improve its ability to survive higher drops, but this has typically been done by making the glass more flexible, which itself makes the glass more prone to scratches. Gorilla Glass Victus changes this.
Your Victus equipped Galaxy Note 20 can withstand drops up to 2 meters (6.56 feet) onto a rough surface without breaking. That is 25% better than the Gorilla Glass 6 equipped Galaxy Note 10 and 10+. But it is not just one drop; the Gorilla Glass Victus can survive multiple drops without failure from the same distance.
With their fans expressing that scratch resistance was equally important, Corning improved here as well. Victus is two times more scratch-resistant than Gorilla Glass 6. When conducting the Knoop Diamond Scratch Test, Victus had a threshold of 7–10 Newton, two to four times more than the competition.
Best of all, the the total cost of Gorilla Glass Victus is the same as Gorilla Glass 6 thanks to less glass being wasted in the manufacturing process. As a result, implementing this new technology shouldn’t raise the prices of smartphones.
Galaxy Note 20 vs. Note 20 Ultra
The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has Gorilla Glass Victus on both the front and back cover of the phone. Thanks to its matte covering, fewer fingerprints and scratches will be visible. And thanks to Victus’s improve scratch resistance, the chance of any marks appearing on the back cover is meager.
As far as the front display, you have two levels of protection, the pre-applied screen protector and Victus. Thanks to these tools, your screen will remain as pristine as it arrived out of the box.
With the Galaxy Note 20, the rear panel is plastic. But on the front, it has the same Gorilla Glass Victus and pre-applied screen protector to keep that side of the phone in mint condition.
