The Padfone X: A Dual-Purpose 5-Inch Phone and Tablet

There is a question that has haunted man since the dawn of time: What if you could combine your tablet and your smartphone? Historians around the world have documented wars on the subject, and philosophers and kings who dared ask the question went down in the annals of history.

Okay, so no one in this ancient history has asked this question, let alone lived long enough to know what a smartphone or tablet is. To be honest, I, as a millennial, have never even fathomed the concept. ASUS has not only answered what it would be like with their Padfone X, but has proven that it’s actually really cool.

The phone itself has a 5-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels, and is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5 in dimensions. This Android phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor along with 16GB memory.

Then there’s the tablet—a 9-inch display that matches the specs of the phone, because it’s using the phone’s specs.

The reason why the 2-in-1 is so cool is simple: affordability. Altogether, this duo costs $199 with a two-year AT&T contract. A phone for $199 is a very affordable phone, so the fact that you’re also getting a tablet is a steal.

The tablet can’t start up unless the phone is attached to the back, which may seem inconvenient until you realize that you’re only using one data plan for two devices. Plus, the phone charges while it’s in the tablet dock.

With the big display, affordable price tag, and a 2-in-1 function, this duo seems like a power couple worth checking out. You can check out more pics and details about it over at TechnoBuffalo’s awesome review.

Hot Deal: Set up a secure second phone number and keep your real contact details hidden with a yearly subscription to Hushed Private Phone Line for Android/iOS, 83%–91% off. It’s a perfect second-line solution for making calls and sending texts related to work, dating, Craigslist sales, and other scenarios where you wouldn’t want to give out your primary phone number.
