Samsung’s One UI 7 Rollout is Back on Track, For Now
Summary
- Samsung resumes One UI 7 update rollout for 2024 flagship smartphones after critical bug fix.
- Initial rollout paused due to major bug, but now, devices worldwide should receive the update.
- Despite the tumultuous release, Samsung aims to get back on track with Android 16 and One UI 8.
The One UI 7 update saga has been a long and turbulent one. After a few past releases where Samsung has managed to release new major One UI updates promptly, it really bungled things this year, to the point that most Samsung phones are still on Android 14 well into April. Apparently, though, it’s finally moving ahead.
Samsung has resumed rolling out One UI 7, based on Android 15, for its 2024 flagship smartphone lineup. Owners of the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 worldwide, including those in the United States, should now begin seeing the update pop up to their devices over the next few days.
As a reminder, the initial rollout began on April 7th after countless delays and tons of other smartphones getting Android 15 before Samsung could roll it out to its own older phones. The Galaxy S25 series, as well as most of Samsung’s new 2025 phones, run One UI 7 out of the box, so the apparent challenge was getting it working fine on its older units. The update was halted abruptly following reports of a critical bug, primarily emerging from South Korea—early adopters described an issue where they were unable to unlock their devices after installing the One UI 7 update, effectively rendering their phones unusable until a fix could be implemented.
Samsung did not publicly acknowledge said issue, but it did halt the update and say that the update’s schedule is “being updated to ensure the best possible experience.” Now, this issue should be fixed, considering that the update began rolling out again. For good measure, though, if you have a phone that’s eligible to update, I would still wait a couple of extra weeks before actually installing the update. It’s been a tumultuous release, and I wouldn’t rule out there being any more issues just in case.
The very first beta of One UI 7 was released back in December, but aside from the unusually late beta rollout (Android 15 was first released back in September 2024 to the AOSP), no one could’ve guessed the mess that would follow. To put things in perspective, the rollout of One UI 7 is starting now, just one month before the final version of Android 16 is due to launch—though in all fairness, Google is releasing this update unusually very early compared to Android 15 in an attempt to shift its update schedule a bit.

Samsung finally confirmed an exact release date and over a dozen devices that’ll get Android 15 first.
Samsung tends to be good at rolling out updates promptly, or at least it has been really good for the past few years. And for what it’s worth, Samsung wants to get back on track with Android 16—the company is already internally testing what will eventually become One UI 8, so we might see the first betas pop up shortly after the final Android 16 update is released.
In the meantime, if you have an eligible phone, be on the lookout for an update coming soon to your device. If it’s already showing up for downloading, make sure to keep my words in mind—wait a few days to see if there aren’t any catastrophic bugs in here. The update should eventually roll out to even older phones too, though we haven’t heard much about that yet.
