The Samsung Galaxy S25 has been available for a few weeks and has now received its first seamless software update, though details on what it contains are vague. An update previously rolled out only to South Korea, but this one is launching globally.

The update is available for the base S25, Plus, and Ultra, and is around 660 MB. Frustratingly, Samsung’s patch notes are sparse, detailing that the “overall stability of functions [has been] improved” and “the security of your device has been improved.”

It brings the security patch level to February 1, 2025. After updating my phone and looking through the settings, nothing immediately stands out as new. Depending on your model of S25, the build numbers are as follows, as reported by Sammy Fans:

  • Galaxy S25: S931BXXU1AYB4
  • Galaxy S25 Plus: S936BXXU1AYB4
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra: S938BXXU1AYB4

Notably, this is the first update to take advantage of the S25’s seamless update feature. This means that you can download and install the update in the background while you continue to use your phone, then complete installation with a quick restart.

This isn’t possible on previous Samsung phones, despite seamless updates being available since 2016 in Android Nougat. Currently, Samsung’s only devices to support seamless updates are the S25 and A55 5G.

This update should already be available for your S25. While you can wait for your phone to automatically detect and install the update, you can also manually trigger a search. To do so, open Settings, tap “Software Update”, then tap “Download and Install.” Your phone will check for updates and let you know if one is available. If this latest update isn’t available for you yet, try again in a few days.

New Samsung Galaxy Phones Won’t Make You Wait for Updates

Samsung is now using Android Seamless Updates in its Galaxy phones.

Samsung offers seven years of updates for the S25, so this first update is a notable milestone on that journey. While those with an S25 might be happy to receive an update, those on older Samsung phones may be less thrilled. That’s because, right now, the S25 is the sole Samsung phone to run One UI 7.

Boasting new AI features and an updated interface, the latest version of Samsung’s One UI software is hotly anticipated, though the company has given no official word on when its older devices will receive it. In fact, the S24 is the only phone to offer a One UI 7 beta, with the latest hotfix for that released mere days ago.

For the time being, it seems the S25 is the priority, which makes sense, and I’m keen to see what future updates bring. Though I’m delighted with my S25, there are certainly areas for improvement—including the Now Brief (as we noted in our S25 review), a feature that is meant to give you personalized briefings throughout the day but currently feels half-baked.
