Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF, is back with four new flashy products, and a smartphone is leading the way. First is the CMF Phone Pro 2, which appears to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, and a trio of earbuds for various needs and budgets.
CMF Phone Pro 2
The CMF Phone Pro 2 immediately grabs attention with a sleek and colorful design. At just 7.8mm thin and 6.5 ounces, CMF boasts about it being their slimmest and lightest smartphone to date. Whether or not that’s something you actually care about is another story. Personally, I’ve always felt lightweight phones feel super cheap.
Powering the device is the sixth-generation MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor. This chipset, featuring an 8-core CPU with clock speeds reaching up to 2.5GHz, should feel like a noticeable upgrade from the original CMF Phone 1. In terms of battery life, CMF also claims it can comfortably last for two full days on a single charge. Many companies make this same claim, but I’ve rarely seen it in practice.
The display on the CMF Phone Pro 2 is a 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. On the rear, photography enthusiasts will appreciate the three-camera setup, headlined by a 50MP main sensor. It’s joined by a 50MP telephoto lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. For selfies and video calls, a 16MP front-facing camera is also present. An extra cool thing is that the camera array features a modular component, allowing you to attach fisheye or macro lenses on the fly.
Speaking of modular, the familiar threaded mounting hole on the bottom rear corner returns. At launch, there’s only a lanyard that takes advantage of the mount. The optional wallet stand attaches to the back with magnets, and the interchangeable lenses simply pop on with a friction fit.
As usual, CMF is putting a strong emphasis on design with the Phone Pro 2. It’s available in four color options–black, light green, orange, and white–and each variant is slightly unique. The black and light green models have frosted glass, while the orange has a metallic sheen, and the white has a nice tactile sandstone finish.
But the most compelling thing about the CMF Phone Pro 2 is its pricing. The 256GB model is slated to retail for only $279. However, buyers in the US have an asterisk. While preorders technically open today, and it’s scheduled to ship on May 6th, the phone will only be available to those within the company’s beta program.
CMF Buds 2, 2 Plus, and 2a
CMF also unveiled a trio of earbuds, though these will not be available for purchase in the US at launch at all. The CMF Buds 2 are a standard entry-level offering with Active Noise Cancellation and technology designed to “simulate” spatial audio. Next, the CMF Buds 2 Plus add hi-res LDAC codec support and a full equalizer for a more nuanced audio experience. Lastly, the CMF Buds 2a are budget buds that still include ANC. All three earbud models are slated for availability on May 6th outside the US. Pricing starts at around $38 for the Buds 2a, $50 for the Buds 2, and $65 for the Buds 2 Plus.
