New: Apple Drops iOS 12.1.3 Beta 2 for iPhone Devs

Apple pushed out iOS 12.1.3 developer beta 2 to all developers on Wednesday, Dec. 19. It’s an interesting and mysterious update, as it follows the sudden release of iOS 12.1.2. That software only had one beta version before its stable release, which would explain why the iOS 12.1.3 dev beta skipped version 1 and went straight to version 2 since it’s basically a continuation of the first iOS 12.1.2 beta.

Since Apple has made the first iOS 12.1.3 developer beta the second beta version, we figured we’d see iOS 12.1.3 public beta 2 released the same day instead of the following day as most first beta versions do. And that’s exactly what happened. So if you’re on the public beta, you can upgrade to iOS 12.1.3 on your iPhone right now.

From what we can see, 12.1.3 dev beta 2 appears to be an incremental update to iOS, likely offering users minor unnamed bug fixes and security patches. We will update this article with any new features or changes that we find while using iOS 12.1.3 dev beta 2, but as of right now, the release notes are very similar to iOS 12.1.1 dev beta’s notes.

Accessibility Resolved Issues

  • Resolved an issue where some user interface elements were inaccessible to VoiceOver in the ‘Electrocardiogram (ECG)’ and ‘Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification’ sections in Health > Health Data > Heart. (46505168)

Core Audio Resolved Issues

  • Audio performance when using some third-party apps is improved on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and iPad Pro 11-inch models. (46037111)

To download and update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.3 dev beta 2, you will first need to be a registered developer with a valid configuration profile. If you have iOS 12’s “Automatic Updates” enabled, you can let the software update overnight. To install now, however, launch the Settings app, select “General,” then “Software Update.” Tap “Download and Install,” then follow the on-screen prompts.

The official version of 12.1.2 for iPhones ended up included bug fixes for eSIM iPhones. That was a welcome update, as more carriers adopt the new dual-SIM feature for iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. It’s possible even though 12.1.3 dev beta 2 appears like a minor update now, it could include a major fix as 12.1.2 did.

Just updated your iPhone? You’ll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what’s new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
