Microsoft Expands Windows 11 24H2 Access, Lifts Two Upgrade Blocks

At the end of last month, Microsoft temporarily paused the rollout of Windows 11 24H2 for thousands of users due to compatibility issues in at least nine cases.

However, the company recently removed two upgrade blocks related to Windows 11 version 24H2, making the operating system available for more PCs.

Microsoft Expands Windows 11 24H2 Access, Lifts Two Upgrade Blocks

The two significant blockers that have been lifted are fingerprint sensor roadblocks and voicemeeter compatibility issues causing BSOD:

Fingerprint Sensor Roadblocks

This block was due to a bug in Windows 11 version 24H2 that caused the fingerprint sensor in certain PCs to become unresponsive after the device was locked. As a result, the Windows Hello fingerprint could not authenticate, forcing users to unlock or log in to the device via a different method.

However, the company addressed this problem with a cumulative update to Windows 11 KB5044284, released on October 8, 2024. After a month of testing the software patch, Microsoft officially lifted the Windows 11 version 24H2 upgrade block for PCs with fingerprint sensors on November 8, 2024.

Voicemeeter Compatibility Issues Causing BSOD

After updating to Windows 11 24H2, users encountered a Blue screen of death (BSOD) error with a “MEMORY MANAGEMENT” message when using Voicemeeter. On receiving feedback from affected users, Microsoft applied a temporary “safeguard hold,” blocking Windows 11 version 24H2 for devices using this application.

The company addressed this upgrade block on Windows 11 24H2 by releasing new versions of the Voicemeeter app (1.1.1.8, 2.1.1.8, or 3.1.1.8) on November 5, 2024. These versions include the updated vbvoicemeetervaio64_win10.sys driver version (3.3.1.9). Users can now enjoy a smooth audio experience without the threat of sudden crashes.
