Meta Puts GTA: San Andreas VR “On Hold Indefinitely”

There is sad news coming in on one of the most anticipated titles for Meta’s VR platform. Meta (previously Facebook) has officially confirmed that it has put the Quest version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas “on hold indefinitely”.

Meta confirmed to IGN via email and in a comment on the official Meta Quest VR YouTube account that it has  put the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on indefinite hold to prioritise other games.

“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects,” a representative from the company confirmed in a comment on Meta Quest VR’s official YouTube account. “We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”

In October 2021, Meta had announced during the Facebook Connect conference that the VR version of Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was in development for Quest 2.

“Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds,” Meta wrote in a blog post. “This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.”

Back then, the tech giant did not share any footage or screenshots or gameplay of this VR version of San Andreas, which seems like we may never see.

Currently, no reason has been provided as to why this project has been put on hold indefinitely, although Meta said that it is looking forward to work with Rockstar in the future without providing much details. With no VR version of San Andreas in sight, it seems like that the GTA fans will now have to wait for GTA 6 to release in 2025.
