Lenovo today at CES 2025 unveiled a new wireless Bluetooth keyboard that charges without a wired power source. It can turn ambient light energy and solar power into enough electricity for typical use.

The new Lenovo 800 Self-Charging Bluetooth Keyboard generates electricity from everyday light thanks to photovoltaic technology, also known as solar cells. The built-in solar panel collects ambient and solar light, turning it into electricity which is then stored in fast-charging supercapacitors. This eliminates the hassle of charging or replacing batteries.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear how long the keyboard can run off of the energy stored in the capacitors. Thankfully, Lenovo has equipped the keyboard with a USB-C port, so you can connect and use it with a host device even if the capacitors are empty.

Because there are no disposable batteries, the 800 Self-Charging Bluetooth Keyboard is better for the environment than keyboards with lithium-ion batteries. The keyboard is resistant to water spills, has low-profile keycaps, and features tilt legs for adjusting the typing angle. You can pair it via Bluetooth with up to three devices at once, and switch between them easily with dedicated keys on the numpad. Other features include a 3-zone layout, media controls on the function keys, as well as dedicated Windows and Copilot keys.

The keyboard can be managed through Lenovo’s Accessories and Display Manager app, which provides other features like brightness indicators and real-time power tracking. According to the company, the keyboard’s exterior is built from 95% post-consumer recycled plastics.

Lenovo will offer this keyboard in white and black with green accents. However, no pricing or availability information was known at publication time. Be sure to check the Lenovo website to order a Self-Charging Bluetooth Keyboard as soon as it arrives.
