Lenovo just showed off its multipurpose AdaptX mouse at CES 2025. It might be one of the coolest ideas for a mouse we’ve ever seen.

Lenovo says this is just a proof of concept for now, meaning that it is not showing up on store shelves right now, at least not in its current state. Why is it cooler than other mice? It can actually transition between a compact mouse, an ergonomic mouse, a travel hub, a memory/SIM card holder, and an emergency power bank. It’s a pretty cool product for travelers, digital nomads, or anyone who values a minimalist setup. Think lighter bags, less clutter on your desk, and fewer things to remember when packing.

For starters, it can transition between a compact mouse and an ergonomic mouse at any given moment by just flipping the back around, and its other capabilities are then revealed by taking it apart from the middle. There’s a travel hub with two full-sized USB ports, there’s a shell that acts as storage for small memory/SIM cards, and there’s a tiny battery that you can use to quickly top up any device.

This leaves the mouse in a bit of a “jack of all trades, master of none” situation, but then again, it’s not meant to replace your full-sized USB hub or your 20,000 mAh power bank. Rather, it’s a product that aims to be pretty useful for a lot of things if you happened to pack light for a short trip. For starters, having a built-in emergency power bank, however small, can be a lifesaver in a pinch. If your phone is dead and you need to make an urgent call or access important information, that little bit of extra juice can be crucial.

Sadly, this is a proof-of-concept, so we don’t know if it will ever reach retailers. If there’s enough interest in it, maybe Lenovo will want to mass-produce it. Who knows?
