IFA 2014: The Coolest Samsung Galaxy Note News

Today was a big day for Samsung at IFA 2014, with announcements of two new devices as successors to the Galaxy Note 3: the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge.

Both variants of the Note are armed with QHD displays, new S Pens, larger batteries, premium metal builds, and 0-50% 30-minute quick charging. While the Note 4 is a step up in build quality from its predecessor, the Note Edge is the real new kid on the block.

The curved “edge” allows for quick access to notifications, apps, and media controls. As more developers work the API into their apps, expect increased functionality out of the Edge’s secondary screen.

Personally, I love the concept of a “ticker,” so to speak, on the side of the device. The only drawback, at least at this point, is that the “edge” will really only be functional across Samsung’s proprietary apps. Sure developers will bake in support, but it’s hard to say when and how many will jump in.
