How to Turn On Automatic App Updates on iPhone

You should keep automatic app updates enabled so that your iPhone and iPad can install security patches and the latest versions of apps & games whenever they are available.

Even though Automatic App Updates are enabled on iPhones by default, if you have disabled them manually, here’s how to turn them on again.

How do you enable automatic app updates on an iPhone?

You can change the App Store settings to turn on the Automatic App Updates feature. Once you enable the feature, your iPhone will download the latest updates to any app without delay. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.

How to Enable Automatic Downloads on iPhone

1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.

Note: If you’re using iOS 12 or lower, you will find several options under the Automatic Downloads section. You need to turn on the sliders for Music, Apps, Books & Audiobooks, Updates.

How to Update Apps Manually on iPhone

Even if you’ve turned on the Automatic App Updates, your iPhone may not always install the updates immediately. So, it’s recommended to perform a manual check for the app updates from the App Store. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Launch the Apple App Store on your iPhone.

2. When the App Store opens, tap on your Profile picture at the top right corner.

How to Update the Stock Apps on iPhone

Your iPhone also has many stock apps like Safari, Photos, Camera, etc. You can’t update those apps from the Apple App Store.

The only way to update the stock apps is to update your iPhone’s system software. Here’s how to do that.
