If you want to set ChatGPT as the default assistant on your Android phone, you need to download & install the latest ChatGPT beta app (v1.2025.070).
You can join the ChatGPT beta Program from the Google Play Store or download the APK from trusted sources.
1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone and search for ChatGPT.
2. Open the ChatGPT app from OpenAI on the Google Play Store.
3. Next, click the Join button on the Join the Beta banner.
4. On the confirmation prompt, tap Join.
5. This will add your account to the beta program. You need to wait for a few minutes.
6. Once done, tap the Update button on the ChatGPT Beta app.
7. Open the Settings app on your phone and tap Apps.
8. On the apps, tap Default apps.
9. Tap the default digital assistant app and select ChatGPT. On the confirmation prompt, tap OK.
How to Start ChatGPT as your Android Assistant
You can invoke ChatGPT just like you invoke Google Assistant. To do so, long press the Power button or swipe up from the bottom of the screen if you’re using gesture navigation.
If you use three-button navigation, long press the Home button to invoke ChatGPT as your assistant.
