How to Record Short TikTok Videos with Your Phone!

In mid-2021, TikTok rolled out three-minute videos, but it’s not stopping there. The company is rolling out a feature that will let you record up to 10 minutes in a single TikTok video — only the update hasn’t appeared for everyone yet.

To get the latest 10-minute video capabilities, ensure your TikTok app for iOS or Android is updated to the newest version. Even then, you might not see a 10-minute recording feature. If that’s the case, be patient, and keep your TikTok app up to date. You’ll know that you can record for more than three minutes when you see a post in your TikTok inbox from TikTok saying:

Upload longer videos: Upload videos up to 10 minutes long from your device. Make sure you’re using the latest version of TikTok before trying out the feature on your app or tiktok.com.

Once you see that, all you need to do to record longer videos is tap the “Record” button in the toolbar, then swipe past 15s, 60s, and 3m on the time selector until you get to 10m. There are no settings to unlock or opt into to make 10m show up in the time selector — TikTok just needs to push the feature to your account.

With 10m selected, start recording like any other video. You have up to 10 minutes, and you can stop and start recording however many times you need to to get your point across. You can also upload a video or group of photos and videos up to 10 minutes long in total instead of using the TikTok camera. After adding media from your device, tap “Adjust clips” from the tools to edit clip durations.

Don’t want to wait to get your hands on 10-minute video recording capabilities? You could try the TikTok beta since TikTok was experimenting with videos up 5–10 minutes on the testing platform after it released three-minute videos to the masses. However, TikTok will still need to push the feature to your account, and that’s not likely to happen just by joining a beta. At present, you can join TikTok’s beta on Android, but the iOS version is not accepting new testers.

Just updated your iPhone? You’ll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what’s new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
