How to Prevent Android from Splitting Long Texts

Depending on your carrier and the texting app that you use, sending long SMS messages from an Android phone often results in the recipient being hit with a barrage of fragmented, out of order texts.

Even if the messages arrive in order, the glorious, sprawling passage that you sent as the rant to end all rants is now chopped into pieces seemingly at random—and with some words hacked in half—which could make your correspondence think you’re even more mentally unstable than you intended.

If only there was some way to make sure that your long ramblings were always received as a single message… Oh, wait, there is!

Use Google Messenger to Send Long Texts in Full

Thanks to a tip from Reddit users facetznysy and ryanmercer, there’s a trick you can use in Google Messenger to make sure those long messages you send are always received as a single text.

Type out the text as you normally would, but instead of tapping on the send button, long-press it, which will bring up a subject box.

You need to add something to the subject box to change the message from an SMS to an MMS, but it can be as simple as tapping the space bar once—you just need to put something in the subject line for this to work.

Once you’ve done this, hit send, and your long-winded message will be sent as a full wall of text, since it’s been converted to an MMS message.

It’s probably a good idea to use this feature in moderation though. Constantly sending novella-length texts will probably annoy your friends almost as much as sending them as fragmented, out of order messages.
