How To: Permanently Disable the ‘Software Update’ Notification on Your Samsung Galaxy — No Root Needed

Updating your Galaxy to the latest software version is optional, but you wouldn’t know that from the persistent notification and status bar icon that are constantly reminding you to. Thankfully, you’re just an app away from hiding these eyesores without the need to update your phone.

For less than the price of a cup of coffee, Hide Persistent Notifications lets you easily hide both the “Software update” status bar icon and notification. Not only that, the app also works for other constant alerts such as the no SIM installed and VPN connection for a clutter-free experience.

Step 1: Install Hide Persistent Notifications

Hide Persistent Notifications can be installed directly from the Play Store, so either head to the app and do a search as you normally would, or simply tap on the link below to go directly to the app’s page.

Step 2: Set Up Hide Persistent Notifications

Step 3: Hide Software Update Notification & Icon

You can now disable the “Software update” notification and status bar icon. So open Hide Persistent Notifications, and tap on the + button on the lower-right corner to start, and tap on the “Software update” tab on the following page.

If you don’t see a “Software update” notification here, it’s because there’s no non-dismissible update notification in your status bar currently. Wait for the next update to become available and you’ll see it.

A confirmation prompt will now appear upon making your selection, so hit “Hide” on the lower-right corner of the dialog box to finish things up. Once done, the status bar icon and accompanying notification for “Software update” will no longer appear on your device.
