In an ongoing effort to improve its services and become more accessible to users from all regions, Facebook has released a streamlined version of its social media app. Though the leaner Facebook Lite is only officially available in Turkey for now, there’s a simple workaround you can use to get the app in any country.
With a file size of around 8.7 MB, Facebook Lite is significantly smaller than its regular, 311 MB counterpart, leaving a noticeably smaller footprint on your iPhone’s storage and battery usage. Besides a simplified UI, Facebook Lite has been optimized to consume less data, giving it snappier performance even with slower 2G internet connections.
Because Facebook Lite is only available in Turkey, you can’t normally download the app if you live outside that country. However, there’s an ingenious hack to get around Apple’s region restrictions and get your hands on the app right now, so if you’d like to browse through your Facebook feed without worrying about your battery dying out on you, we’ll show you how below.
Download & Install Facebook Lite
Facebook Lite will work on any iPhone or iPad running iOS 9.0 or higher. Aside from that, the only other installation requirement is that you have an Apple ID based in Turkey.
Fortunately, creating an App Store login for another country is a simple process — just sign up for a new Apple ID using a valid email account and a realistic Turkish home address, then sign into the spoofed account on your iOS device. If you’d like a more detailed guide as to how this is done, check out our tutorial at the link below.
- Don’t Miss: Change Your App Store Country to Download Region-Locked Apps
Once you’ve successfully set up your Turkish App Store account, the rest of the process will work exactly the same as installing any other app or game. So open your App Store app and search for Facebook Lite to download it, or simply tap on the link below, then press “Get.”
Once you’ve installed Facebook Lite, please keep in mind that the app may have some minor bugs since it’s still being tested for iPhones. But we tested the app on an iPhone 8 and iPad Mini 4 on iOS 12 and encountered no noticeable issues. How’s the app working on your end? Post your comments down below and share your thoughts.
