Instagram is the world’s biggest photo-sharing site, narrowly edging out competitors like Imgur and Flickr. But unlike the competition, Instagram doesn’t make it easy for users to download a full-resolution copy of any of the images hosted on their servers, as the site’s main intention is to keep folks coming back and using the social media aspect of it all.
It’s really a shame, too, because Instagram profile pictures would make a great source for updating your friends’ contact photos on your phone. And up until now, the best you could do in this regard was download a grainy thumbnail-quality image, if you could even get that far.
But that’s where an awesome new Android app from the development team at Axl Studios comes into play. In two simple taps, you’ll be able to save a full-resolution copy of anyone’s Instagram profile pic, and the best part is, this even works if you don’t have an Instagram account or if the image you want belong to a user who has their profile set to “Private.”
Step 1: Install InstaPP
To get this one going, the only thing you’ll really need to do is install the app called InstaPP for Instagram.
Step 2: Download Instagram Profile Pictures
Once you’ve got the app installed, simply open it up, then type anyone’s Instagram user name into the field at the top of the screen. From there, press “Go,” then within a few seconds, you’ll see the full-res image. To download a copy, simply tap the button at the bottom of the screen.
The images will be saved in a folder named “InstaPP” on your device’s SD card or internal storage partition. This means they can be viewed in any photo app or file browser, and because they’re in full resolution, these images will make for great contact photos.
