How to Get Your Flirty Mojo Back: Reverting to the Classic Tinder App on Android

Tinder, the extremely popular dating app, has the wonderful tagline, “Any swipe can change your life.” However, if you downloaded their most recent update, your next swipe could cost up to $19.99.

In an effort to chase the almighty dollar, Tinder introduced “Tinder Plus,” a premium service that costs $9.99 per month for people under 30 in the United States, and $19.99 per month for people over the age of 30. (In the UK, the divider is 28 years of age.) These features include unlimited swipes, “Rewind” (the ability to undo a mistaken denial), and “Passport” (to change your location and browse singles anywhere in the world).

While these features are cool, there is no chance most of Tinder-nation will shell out 10 to 20 bucks a month to use the app’s latest additions. Limiting the number of likes a person can have is the most contentious of the bunch. The free version allowed an unlimited number of swipes, so the creation of an arbitrary limit has really pissed some people off.

Rosette Pambakian, Tinder’s Vice President of Corporate Communications and Branding, says of the limit, “It’s not a set number. It’s based on an algorithm, and in some cases it is individual. The vast majority of our audience will never hit any swiping barrier.”

Nevertheless, if you have zero interest in any of these new features, you can roll back an older version of Tinder for Android. (Sorry, iOS users.)

Bringing Back the Old Version

If you wish to remove the premium options from your Tinder app and enjoy the service like the good ol’ days, you’ll need an older APK file for the app.

Step 1: Uninstall the Latest Version

Before you can install an older version of Tinder, you will need to uninstall the updated version you have on your device. Don’t worry, all of you matches will still be there since everything is connected to your Tinder account.

Step 2: Download Tinder Version 3.3.2

Go ahead and download Tinder version 3.3.2 from here directly on your device (or via your computer and transfer it over). Make sure to use the “Download Now” button, and not the “Download” button.

Step 3: Install Tinder Version 3.3.2

Once it is fully downloaded, make sure to have installation of apps from “Unknown sources” enabled, if you don’t already, then install the Tinder app onto your device by selecting the APK file and following the on-screen instructions.

Step 4: Tinder Like the Good ‘Ol Days

Next, you will need to sign back in with your Facebook account. If you are using the same device, Tinder will automatically recognize your login information. You should notice that the new features are gone and the simple Like and Nope buttons are back.

(1) Version 4.0.5 (not awesome). (2) Tinder 3.3.2 (awesome).
