How to Enable RCS Messaging on iPhone (iOS 18)

Apple introduced many new changes with iOS 18. The new operating system is better in many ways and excels at customization.

The one thing that’s exciting for lots of Android and iPhone users is the RCS messaging. RCS or Rich Communication Services support in the Messages app is not official with iOS 18.

What is RCS Messaging?

RCS is an advanced version of standard SMS offering better messaging features.

With RCS Messaging, you get amazing features like typing indicators, read receipts, the ability to send longer messages, sending high-quality photos and videos on messages, and more.

Apple has now added RCS support to iOS 18, allowing iPhone and Android users to communicate without depending on third-party instant messaging apps.

How to Enable RCS on iPhone?

Even though Apple added RCS support to iOS 18, your network carrier still needs to support this feature. So, if you’ve installed the iOS 18 Beta 2 or above and your network carrier supports RCS, here’s how you can enable it on your iPhone.

Enable RCS on iPhoneEnable RCS on iPhone

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • When the Settings app opens, tap on the Apps.
  • On the Apps screen, scroll down a bit and find Messages.
  • On the Messages, find RCS Messaging.
  • Next, turn on the toggle next to the RCS Messaging to activate the feature.

This is how you can enable RCS Messaging on your iPhone. Once you’ve enabled the feature, you will have a much better messaging experience between iPhone and Android.

How to Disable RCS Messaging on iPhone?

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • When the Settings app opens, tap on Apps.
  • Next, find and tap Messages.
  • On the Text Messaging section, turn off the toggle for RCS Messaging.

Why RCS toggle isn’t showing up on my iPhone?

If your iPhone is running iOS 18 and you still can’t find the RCS toggle, it means that your network carrier doesn’t support the feature yet.

As of now, most phone carriers in the US support RCS, but not all do. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile right now let you use RCS on iPhone with iOS 18.

Also, the iOS 18 Public Beta 3 has RCS support for network carriers in Spain, Germany, Canada, and other countries.

You can check whether your carrier supports RCS Messaging by following the instructions in this guide: How to Check if You Have RCS Messaging on iPhone.
