How to Easily Share Big Files on Your Nexus 5 or Android Device
Owning an Android device is almost like having a PC in your pocket. Android’s ability to easily navigate the file system on your phone is one of many features that separate it from the competition. Just plug your phone into a computer, drag the file over, and you’re all set.
But USB cables aren’t the only way to transfer files from your phone. Cloud storage and file sharing services like Pushbullet can serve as a go-between amongst all of your devices. Unfortunately, though, file-size limits can hinder your ability to use these services with bigger files. Pushbullet, for instance, limits you to 25-megabyte files, and Box limits your uploads to 250 MBs.
Developer Cylon U87 has created an app that will put an end to struggles with file size limits. With his app, you can simply split the file into pieces that will fit your service, then easily re-join them on the other end.
Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources
Since Cylon’s app, Files Splitter & Joiner is not available on the Play Store, you’ll need to ready your phone for sideloading. Just head to your phone’s Settings, then tap Security. From here, tick the box next to Unknown Sources and press OK on the subsequent popup.
Step 2: Install Files Splitter & Joiner
From your phone’s browser, just tap this link to download the installer file. When the download is finished, tap the corresponding notification to launch the installer. From here, press Install, then when it’s finished, tap Open.
Step 3: Configure Options
When you first open the app, swipe in from the left edge of your screen to see the side navigation bar. From here, tap the Settings icon near the bottom to configure some options.
Most of these settings have very specific use-cases, but one to be aware of is Create self-joining batch file. This will create an additional file that can be sent alongside the various split pieces, that, when launched on a Windows PC, will automatically join the pieces. If you’re planning on sending the large file to a Windows computer, be sure to enable this option.
Step 4: Split a File
From the app’s main screen, just tap the Folder icon to the right of the Select a File field. This will bring up a file browser interface which you can use to find the file you’d like to split. To queue the file up for splitting, simply long-press it.
The app puts the split pieces into the same folder that the original file came from, but you can change that destination using the icon to the right of the Select output folder field.
When it comes to splitting the file, you have 2 choices: Number of chunks or Custom size. Use Custom size if you’d like the file to be automatically split into pieces that fit your cloud service’s upload limits. To split the file into a specific number of pieces, use Number of chunks.
When you’ve made your choices, a new button will appear in the upper right-hand corner. Just tap this to begin splitting your file.
Step 5: Join Files
Say for instance you’ve split a file, then sent it over whatever medium, and you’d like to join the file on another Android device.
Open Files Splitter & Joiner on that device, then use the side navigation menu to select Join. From here, tap the Folder icon at the top-right to browse to any of the file’s pieces. Long-press one of those, then tap the Join button in the top right-hand corner.
Give the app a few seconds, and it’ll have your file put back together in no time.
So what do you think? It’s a pretty handy app, isn’t it? What are some services that you’ve been able to upload large files with using this app? Let us know in the comments section below.

May 21, 2024Amazingly Priced and Powerful Device. I love this LG Google Nexus 5. It is the prefect size, it is fast, and it gets updates straight from google and quickly. I like the pure android operating system with no carrier bloatware and manufacturer skins. I would recommend this device to anyone. This is the best device I have ever used. It has a decent camera, a good battery life, and an excellent screen and processor. I usually get through a full day on a single charge and have near 5 hours on screen time. The photos look great and clear to me, but compared to a better resolution camera and one with better lowlight performance it is still pretty decent. I have no complaints with this phone. Also, I have rooted and installed twrp recovery it but left stock OS as I love pure android. I was surprised as to how simple and easy it was to unlock boot loader and root and install custom recovery, it maybe took me 10 minutes at most. I currently have the official android lollipop upgrade, but I couldn’t wait so I downloaded it from google and flashed it. I could have gotten the ota in a few days, but the put it on the developers page for manual install and I took the opportunity to install it. I will definitely recommend this phone as it is a very powerful device.

May 21, 2024It almost convinced me it was great. Argh, I really want to like this. The phone itself is great. The screen looks crisp, the camera issues have been ironed out with patching, the phone is quick, the perfect size for someone who wants a phone they can actually fit in their pocket (phablets are stupid, buy a tablet), and it uses Android/Google which is exactly what I wanted. There were a few minor issues like the phone getting incredibly hot running basic game apps but they aren’t anything I would knock a star off for. The major problems are mostly software.Since the update to Lollipop, the Nexus 5 has been hit with a myriad of odd issues. This actually happens on many of Androids updates (at least for this phone model). Many of these issues were fixed in the 5.1 patch but there are some device breaking problems that have not been and it seems like there isn’t really any attention being given to them ( maybe because the 6 is out?). I have had mine for three months and I have two critical problems on it. First, the wifi option is gone. The screen says. “turning wifi on” and the tab is grayed out so I can’t change anything. It has been like that for days. This means everything I do is straight off of my data plan, I used 2 gigs just resetting my phone (for these two issues). The second, and far worse, problem is that it now reboots itself repeatedly, consecutively. If my phone tries to idle into sleep or attempts to lock ( on its own or my actions) it immediately reboots. Once it is rebooted it will sit at the homepage and reboot again. The reboot does not happen if I am doing something or if I set the screen to avoid sleep for 30 minutes (once 30 is up it will reboot). The fact that it only happens on sleep or lock tells me it isn’t hardware, it is software. I have tried starting it is safe mode, which means it isn’t an app causing the problem, I have tried wiping the cache and I have tried a factory reset. This problem is posted repeatedly on Google forums and no one has any idea how to fix it. The only option I have seen is to contact LG or Google and ship it in for repairs. That will teach me to buy it second hand huh?The phone is nice, I really liked it. The three months I used it I enjoyed and was impressed, having upgraded from a Galaxy S3. I just can’t get over the software issues. This particular model seems to encounter many software issues and they are really slow about repairing them. I could even deal with odd issues as long as it didn’t affect the primary function of my phone but a phone that kills itself in 2 hours with reboots or shuts down every couple of minutes is unusable. I give the device a 5 star physically but a 3 star overall for a plague of software issues. Maybe I should have stuck with the Galaxy series or tried the HTC One M8.May 7th Update!: So I sent my phone to LG for repairs…in March. Everytime I ask what is happening with my phone (because their website will not update the status) they tell me to wait while they put in a request. The first time I asked was after I waited three weeks. They have been telling me the same crappy, “We will put in a request, please wait” message for over two weeks. I have not had this phone since March and it is a full week into May. LG support is literally the worst support I have ever had to deal with and I have had to contact IbuyPower (I would never wish that on anyone) and applied for student loans (those will keep annoying you long after the paper work). I feel confident that I will never buy an LG phone again out of fear that I will need repairs or customer service. I cannot stress enough, or properly put into words, just how terrible it is to send your phone in for repairs and to know nothing about it for the next month and a half.

May 21, 2024Recommended Seller, Recommended Phone. First of all the phone is amazing. It’s really fast. The camera is better than expected. Nexus Imprint works fine. Absolutely it deserves its value. And this version is Europe version (I know, it says on the topic but i did not notice at first) and it comes with an European adaptor. It helped a lot because i am using the phone in Turkey. No problem so far. And the good part it came with a converter in the box (mini usb to type c). With this converter, you can use your old mini usb cable (in the photo). Thanks for the converter, man. We bought another Nexus 5x for my friend but there was no such a thing in the box.

May 21, 2024Good cell phone, although may not be perfect. Generally, I think it’s a good cellphone. The reason I left a “although may not be perfect” on my headline is that, well, it is not of “iPhone like” quality, surely, because of the price. I haven’t experienced too many cellphones so the only cellphone I know that is “nearly perfect” or “benchmarked” in terms of quality is iPhone.I bought it because of the price and its balanced features from the review and spec. After unpacking the box, it made me a little surprised because the appearance of the phone looks really nice to me. I liked the feel of the back, the black color, and the overall simple and neat contour. The design of putting the finger sensing on the back is really genius, it makes the touching pretty comfortable each time I want to unlock it. Also the sensing is quite acute, most of the time it will recognize that it’s me. The whole system runs fluently (android seems to be notorious for its system efficiency after months or years of use, so I don’t know how it will be after years) and the UI design is clean and comfortable. The thing that I want to blame the most is the battery life. My old phone is a Samsung and it’s 2+ years old, however, the battery of my old one still lasts longer than the new nexus 5x. Though the pixel resolution is finer, it still makes me a little depressed. To sum up, it’s a good phone for the price, comfortable to use. Compared to iPhone, based on my opinion, it’s only a 3 star or less, however, considering the price, a 4 star is ok.

May 21, 2024My other phone fell in water so I was glad that I bought this one until I went to. I purchased this phone as a back up to my phone. My other phone fell in water so I was glad that I bought this one until I went to use it. I took it down to Tmobil and they said that the phone I purchased from this seller was reported as “lost / stolen”, and unable to use. This is of course months ago and unable to get a return. The jokes on me I guess, nice way to wasted $150. If you do purchase from this seller, verify that the item is not stolen. Thank you

May 21, 2024The Nexus 5x H791 (International) – a great choice for traveling, XDA / ROM buffs. I bought this unit on Aug-29. It came at a reasonable price and works fine. I specifically chose the H791 (worldwide) variant because it supports the maximum number of LTE bands, making it a good choice when traveling anywhere. Research the LTE band support carefully before choosing a variant of the Nexus 5x.Pros:- LTE band support- It is a Nexus – though the Google Nexus seems to have been wound down, release of all factory images and sources make this a good phone that will receive support and ROMS from XDA developers for years to come- Bootloader can be unlocked without jumping through hoops- Continues to receive Google security updates and Android updates. I am on Nougat 7.1.1 and Dec-01-2016 security level as of Dec-08-2016- It is slightly smaller than similar phones like the OnePlus One / OnePlus 3. I like this, but YMMVCons:- Only one SIM slot

May 21, 2024it for nearly a month now and I’m quite satisfied. All expectations have been met and some exceeded. Had it for nearly a month now and I’m quite satisfied. All expectations have been met and some exceeded. Coming from a first-gen Moto G, this feels a little big in the hands but I’ve gotten used to it. It’s definitely fast, responsive, with some occasional but not burdensome hiccups, and a great camera. The fingerprint sensor also responds quickly most if not all the time. The biggest downside for me is that there’s only one loudspeaker, on the lower bezel, and that makes watching videos in landscape mode a little awkward. Battery life is not bad, but also not great, but charging is quick enough. Otherwise, great phone. I’d highly recommend it.

May 21, 2024and I really love the whole family. This is the 3rd Nexus phone in our home, and I really love the whole family. My husband had the Nexus 4 about a year after it came on the market, and as the second smart phone he’s ever used (he’d be perfectly fine with a flip phone for the rest of his life) he thought it was user friendly, not too many crazy bells and whistles, and a fair value. Based on how he liked the 4 I decided to get the 5, which I thought had all the same attributes with some well designed upgrades and looked super cool with the white on black. Unfortunately Pokemon Go! took it’s toll on that phone (don’t rollerblade while watching your phone) and I needed to replace it so I thought I’d try out the 5X.The 5X overall is a great phone for those who aren’t the most tech savvy or want to get the most phone for a reasonable price (who can afford $700 for a phone?!). I on the white back again because I just think it looks so sleek, and got a case that allows me to see how awesome it looks to prevent a repeat from the death of my 5. The fingerprint scanner is a nice touch to turn it on quickly, just make sure you do both left and right index fingers, however every once in a while it requires a lock pattern for extra security and I’m not sure why since I had just been using it. The OK google feature was super responsive when I first got it, and could even hear me over music playing if the phone was close enough to me…however now I think it’s starting to have a hard time hearing me if I’m too far away or if there is ambient noise. Good news is I mostly use it when I’m driving to turn on navigation. The 5X is a little bigger than the 5. As a small female the 5 fit in my hand perfectly, so especially with the case on this was probably the biggest drawback for me. I did get used to it, but I still find that I am adjusting the phones position in my hand more often which increases the likelihood that I’ll drop it.The battery life is actually pretty great for my usage. I’ve found I can get at least 2 maybe 3 days before charging it again, with turning on bluetooth only when I need it, keeping the screen at 50% brightness or less, and other basic battery saving stuff. And the quick charge is fantastic! There have been a lot of times that I have literally only had 10 min before leaving or while out to be near an outlet and getting 4 hours of battery in 10 min is the coolest thing for someone whose never had it before.Getting the UK version mean getting the international charge cable, but they included an American adapter which is great, however it sticks out of the wall about 4 inches and is overall just kind of awkward so while it will stay plugged in on its own, at the slightest nudge it will fall off the adapter. I guess plugging it into a power strip on the floor would solve the problem, but it’s just kind of annoying.I really like the Google phones and will likely keep using them (assuming I can get the Pixel at a better price at some point). I already decided that I’m not going to get the 6 because it is just huge, but I’m sure that one is a great phone too for someone who can hold it.

May 21, 2024Phone broke after 4 months. I mean, the phone was great to use when it works. Finger print protection, great screen resolution, photos are nice, too, for the mere price of $280. Sometimes it froze, sometimes it overheated, but I restarted everything and it was fine again. It was also SO SLOW when battery is low (I’m not talking about 5% low, I’m talking 35%!!)But mine suddenly crashed and went into a bootloop at exactly 3 months 29 days, it will never start again for who knows what reason, it cannot be entered into recovery mode for fixing or anything. Welp, rip $300 I poorly wasted for just 4 months use. This version has NO WARRANTY, people, and the infinite bootloop issue I have is VERY COMMON online, and Nexus techs do nothing but say “It is unfixable, trust us, we’ve tried, please contact your warranty replacement”. LG probably has worst customer service, so yay.I had paid for a $50 phone that last longer than this. Honestly, you’re paying well over $300 after tax, please do a service for yourself and get RELIABLE one, that doesn’t give you this much headache.
