Facebook Lite: The Tiny but Mighty Version

As one of the most frequently used and popular applications available, Facebook is now attempting to be a little more considerate for those Android users that don’t have a bleeding-edge device or fast data connections.

Like starting quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck, some of us are just fine with our modest, lower-end devices, but the memory required by the Facebook app can make it cumbersome, and quite frustrating, to use.

Thankfully, Facebook is now offering an alternative for these older devices, known as Facebook Lite. Available for free from the Google Play Store, this app is “designed for 2G networks and areas with limited network connectivity.”

Requiring less than 1 MB of memory (252 KB to be exact), this version is ideal for older devices, or anyone just looking to save some resources and decrease the battery drain caused by the main, full-fledged app.

Facebook Lite is only available for a handful of countries in Africa and Asia for the moment, but anyone running Android can get it now using the Facebook Lite APK, courtesy of APK Mirror (just make sure to have installation of apps from “Unknown sources” enabled on your device).

Not only is this app less of a memory-hog than the original version, Facebook Lite offers its messaging service without the need to install the once mandatory Facebook Messenger app.

Try it now regardless of whether your device is new or not, and let us know the difference you experienced. Feel free to comment below with questions, or catch us over on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter.
