It looks as though Samsung will continue to tone down the look of TouchWiz, according to a leaked look at the newest “Grace” user interface for the upcoming Galaxy Note 7. HDblog, who acquired the leaked UI, shows off the beta version of the new skin in their video below.
You probably noticed that the video is in Italian, so let’s go over the changes in English just in case your Italian, like mine, is third best.
The notification panel has been given a simplified black and white design, with some muted blue highlights. Overall, it looks a little sharper than the blue- and green-heavy look of older versions of TouchWiz.
You’ll also now be able to access more quick settings from the notification panel, and change the settings from the panel rather than opening up a new settings screen. It looks like you’ll also be able to add and remove different settings depending on your preferences.
The full Settings menu has also been streamlined into a linear list. It should be a little easier to hunt down the setting you’re looking for now that you don’t have to sort through various sub-menus.
Folders also get a new look, and will appear full screen when you open them, with the background blurred out, à la iOS. You’ll also be able to change the color of your folder for added sorting options. It’s a minor change, but it looks pretty nice.
You’ll be able to use swipe gestures on app icons in this release, perhaps paving the way for a force-press feature for a future Galaxy handset. According to HDblog, it’s unlikely that the Note 7 will include this feature, but Samsung may be pushing developers to begin including this feature for future releases.
The home screen looks basically the same as it did before, aside from the inclusion of some new wallpapers. We’ll be sure to get them to you to download once they become available.
Galaxy Note 7 Specs
We got some new information over the weekend about the Galaxy Note 7 itself, compliments of leaker Evan Blass. According to Blass, the handset will have a 5.7-inch QD SAMOLED (Samsung AMOLED) display, 64 GB on-device storage with a microSD slot, and IP68 dust/waterproofing like the Galaxy S7. It will also have a dual-lens 12 MP camera on the rear, and a 5 MP front-facing camera. There will be an iris scanner for unlocking the device and confirming payments. The Galaxy Note 7 will be available in black, silver, or blue this Fall.
