At the iPhone 16 series launch, Apple officially announced that it would roll out the next iteration of the iPhone’s operating system, iOS 18, on September 16, 2024.

The iOS 18 update is set to roll out today, September 16, at 10 AM PDT, 1 PM EST, and 10:30 PM IST. The new OS is compatible with the iPhone 16 series (pre-installed), iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE (second generation or later).

For those unaware, iOS 18 was first unveiled at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote address in June 2024. The new iOS 18 will bring several new features, including home screen customization options, a redesigned Control Center, Safari and Maps app upgrades, eye tracking, new iMessage features, a new Photos app, Music Haptics, and much more.

However, Apple Intelligence, one of the key highlights of the iOS 18 update, will not be included in this update. Currently, the Apple Intelligence feature is in a testing phase and is expected to arrive in a subsequent iOS 18.1 update in October.

Steps To Download iOS 18 Update

Before downloading the iOS update, check whether your device is eligible. If eligible, back up all your iPhone data using iCloud or iTunes to ensure that all your personal and phone data stays secure. Also, ensure that your iPhone is charged to at least 50% or above, you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, and there is at least 5GB of free storage on your iPhone.

Step 1: Go to your iPhone’s “Settings” app.

Step 2: Scroll down and look for “General,” then tap on “Software update.”

Step 3: You should see an iOS 18 update message at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Tap Download and Install. This will prompt you to enter your passcode, which will be followed by a list of Terms and Conditions.

Step 5: Once you check the box ‘I Agree to the Terms and Conditions’ and tap ‘Agree’ in the bottom right-hand corner, iOS 18 will start installing on your iPhone.

Step 6: After the download is complete, you can customize your iPhone to take advantage of the new features.
