Breaking News: Galaxy S8+ with 6GB RAM & 128GB Storage Launches in China First

Android lovers out there might be sad to hear that a high-end version of the Samsung Galaxy S8+ with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage won’t be released in the US, but rather, in China.

Yesterday, Samsung launched its two new Galaxy flagships, the S8 and S8+, at the SAMSUNG UNPACKED 2017 event. The two new Galaxy variants both have Quad HD+ AMOLED screens, measuring in at 5.8″ and 6.2″, respectively, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

This information comes from Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site similar to Twitter, which Gizmo China was so kind to translate and report for us. Noted leaker Ice Universe provided the details about the higher-end Galaxy S8+ with 6 GB of RAM. This version of the S8+ will be released in China first, before anyone else in the Western world can get their anxious little hands on it.

Last year, the Korean tech giant pulled a similar move when the Galaxy C9 Pro was initially released in China as Samsung’s first smartphone with 6 GB of RAM.

The price of the high-end version has not been confirmed, but Habeeb Onawole at Gizmo China speculates that it could be as high as $870. Further, Onawole notes that “the fact that the 6GB RAM version of the phone was spotted on TENAA should be a good indication that the high-end model would make its way into China.”

The two variants that US users will be able to preorder, starting today, will both have curved edge screens, 12 MP rear cameras, an 8 MP front camera with auto-focus, and wireless charging.

Already pre-installed on both phones is Android’s 7.0 Nougat. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will also have a bunch of new features such as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, iris scanner, a virtual home button, and Bixby, your personal Samsung assistant, and competitor to Apple’s Siri.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ variants with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will be available in stores in the US starting April 21. You can also pick one up at AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Sprint, Straight Talk Wireless, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless. Or, at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and even through the Shop Samsung app.

As of now, there’s no word on when the S8+ with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM will be available in the US, but as always, we’ll update this post with details on how to get the high-end version if and when it’s released here.
