WhatsApp rolled out a new feature early this year called ‘Events’. At the initial stage, Events are available only in community groups to help you and your contacts organize gatherings and stay connected.

Now, it looks like WhatsApp made the same feature available across group chats. This means, users can set up virtual events in group chats now.

Events in WhatsApp are a feature that makes it easier for people to plan their get-togethers directly in the app.

Whether setting up a simple virtual meeting or a birthday dinner, anyone can create an event, and others can respond.

And yes, WhatsApp does send the attendees a notification when the event approaches the scheduled time.

How to Create an Event in WhatsApp Group Chat?

Before you follow along with the steps, it’s important to know that the ‘Events’ for group chat are rolling out in phases. So, you may not have it straight away. Make sure that you’re using the latest version of the WhatsApp app on your phone.

If you can’t access Event despite running the latest version of WhatsApp, try installing the WhatsApp Beta app. Here’s how to set up events in WhatsApp group chats.

1. Launch the WhatsApp app on your phone and open the group chat where you want to create an event.

2. Next, tap the Paperclip icon on the text field.

4. Name the Event and write a short description.

5. Once done, tap the date and set the date and time for the event.

6. On the Location field, add the location where you’re planning the event.

7. If you want to set up a call feature for the Event, tap on Call type and select between Video or Voice.

8. Once done, tap the Send button at the bottom right corner. The event will be shared with the WhatsApp group.

How to Cancel a WhatsApp Event?

You can also cancel the WhatsApp Event you’ve created if you want. Please note that the Attendees will be notified if you cancel the event or make any changes to it.

To cancel a WhatsApp Event, open the group chat where you’ve created it. Tap on the Event and then select Cancel Event. This will cancel the event you’ve set up.

How do you find upcoming events in a group?

Finding a group’s event is relatively easy. To do so, open the group and tap on the Group name at the top.

On the group information screen, you will see all upcoming events. You can then select whether to attend the event.
