LG G3: Your Complete Guide

After lots of anticipation and leaks, the LG G3 has been unveiled. Sporting a gorgeous 5.5″ Quad HD display, the first of its class for smartphones, this flagship device is ready to put some scare into Samsung and HTC. It’s currently available for purchase from AT&T and Sprint, and for preorder at T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

Specs Include:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 801processor
  • 5.5″ QHD display (2560 x 1440) with 538ppi
  • 13 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, 2.1 MP front camera
  • Laser Auto Focus for fast focusing and shooting
  • Curved rear and fingerprint-proof metallic skin
  • 16 GB on board memory with 2 GB RAM or 32 GB on board memory with 3 GB RAM
  • Expandable memory
  • Removable 3000 mAh battery

LG has put out a series of tips for their new device which highlight some of the more innovative features:

Knock Code

In line with other manufacturers, LG too wants to lessen the reliance on the power button. Knock your device to sleep, knock it to wake, and use a “Knock code” to unlock it. Pretty neat.

Smart Notice

Don’t worry about forgetting missed calls and texts. Smart Notice will intelligently remind you of your missed alerts—but it’s more than that. This is LG’s version of a personal assistant. Everything from telling you the weather to cleaning up files for increased storage, this is LG’s version of Google Now.

Quick Circle Case

Okay, this is really cool. With LG’s proprietary case, you can view alerts, make calls, send texts, and more—while the case is closed. Words won’t do it justice, check out the video to see it in action.

Dual Window

Similar to Samsung’s Multi Window, LG isn’t about to be left out of the multitasking fun. Open an app, then open another one right under it. Very cool for sharing stuff, as the video shows, but hopefully there’s an easy way to add more apps than the ones shown.

The Camera

Low light shooting, laser auto focus, and optical image stabilization are the highlights to the 13-megapixel rear shooter. For someone like me with shaky hands, the OIS alone makes me ready to upgrade to this device as soon as it goes on sale. Add to that burst shooting, 4K video, and a very smart selfie “flash” for better front-facing camera shots, and we’re looking at one hell of a smartphone camera.

Guest Mode

Control which apps are available, and keep your private messages private by enabling Guest Mode, which can be done with an alternate Knock Code.

Smart Bulletin

Track health, access tutorials, and link with Smart Notice to view content that’s relevant to you.

Smart Keyboard

Hoping that not everyone will jump ship to Swiftkey and Swype, LG is sporting a new, adjustable length keyboard. Smart Keyboard also uses gestures to complete predicted words, correct typos, and navigate text.

Quad HD Display

Last, but definitely not least, is the beautiful 5.5-inch display. Of course it’s impossible to see the amazing this screen is through a video, but it’s worth checking out. A ridiculous pixel density means you’ll see every little detail, and you’ll be able to view 4K videos the way they were meant to be seen. And with minimal bezels, you’ll get more screen real estate in a smaller form factor.

Other device features include a Content Lock to keep sensitive data private, and a kill switch to remotely disable the device if it’s lost or stolen.
