iOS 11.2.1 Update: Sharing HomeKit Access Now Easier!

Just nine days after the official release of iOS 11.2, Apple has released iOS 11.2.1. The update initially seems to have been seeded to only a handful of users and is intended to fix bugs in 11.2.

One specific bug fix revolves around HomeKit. Apple’s Home app experienced a vulnerability where unauthorized users could gain access to the app, which would give control of connected devices — such as smart locks — to intruders. Apple patched this issue before 11.2.1, however, that patch broke remote access for shared users of the Home app. iOS 11.2.1 restores remote access for those users.

This bug appears to be the biggest fix with iOS 11.2.1.

The main iOS 11.2 update on Dec. 2 included Apple Pay Cash, which provides person-to-person money transfers within the Messages app. The service uses Apple Pay, so all transactions are secure. This feature was announced at WWDC in June as part of iOS 11, but was not included in iOS 11’s original release in September.

Other fixes and features added in iOS 11.2 include tweaked emojis, an assortment of new wallpapers, and bug fixes to the Calculator app, to name a few. For a full list of everything iOS 11.2 has to offer, make sure to check out our full roundup.
