News: Apple Drops Second Beta of iOS 12.1.1 for Developers – Get Ready!

Developers opened their iPhones on Wednesday, Nov. 7, to find an update to the iOS 12.1.1 beta. Apple seeded developers the first 12.1.1 beta on Halloween, marking one week between it and the second beta. It’s a quick update turnaround but in line with trends as Apple typically waits at least a week in between beta releases.

If past releases are any indication, public testers should expect to see an update in their Settings later today.

Before downloading and installing the new beta update, ease your expectations — it appears dev beta 2 is simply a minor update to iOS 12.1.1, offering no new features or major changes. Instead, developers should anticipate bug fixes and security patches, resulting in a more stable version of iOS.

  • Update: Apple Releases iOS 12.1.1 Developer Beta 3 to Testers

To download and update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.1 dev beta 2, you first need to be a registered developer with a valid configuration profile. If you have iOS 12’s new “Automatic Updates” enabled, you can let the software update overnight. To download the beta right now, however, launch the Settings app, select “General,” then “Software Update.” Tap “Download and Install,” then follow the on-screen prompts to download and install iOS 12.1.1 dev beta 2.

Overall, iOS 12.1.1 improves the FaceTime user interface and brings back the Live Photo button within the app, which was removed when iOS 12 came out. There is also a News improvement for iPad users, the ability to turn off the nano-SIM account for dual-SIM iPhones, and updated Apple Watch app icon for Series 4, and VoLTE support for Sprint, as well as a TLS security enhancement for all.

Just updated your iPhone? You’ll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what’s new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
