Apple releases iOS update to keep iPhones safe from jailbreakers

Apple just released iOS 13.5.1, the latest update for iPhone, on Monday, June 1. The update comes 12 days after iOS 13.5, which introduced COVID-19 exposure notifications, a Group FaceTime update, and Face ID improvements when wearing a mask.

Apple released iOS 13.5.1 at 10 a.m. PDT, its usual release time for software updates. The update is available to any iPhone compatible with iOS 13, whether or not you updated your iPhone to iOS 13.5 last week. Interestingly, Apple decided not to beta test the update.

The initial download page for the update states “iOS 13.5.1 provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.” As it turns out, the “important security update” involves patching the Unc0ver jailbreak exploit that allowed you to jailbreak your iPhone through iOS 13.5. Other jailbreak exploits exist, however, like Chimera or Checkra1n.

As always, the update is entirely free. To download the update, head to Settings –> General –> Software Update, then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install iOS 13.5.1. You can also set your iPhone to download and install new updates automatically. If you have an iOS beta profile installed, however, you’ll need to delete it first before you are able to update to iOS 13.5.1.

Just updated your iPhone? You’ll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what’s new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
