iPhone 7 Prototype Video Sneakily Escapes Factory!

A video showing what is alleged to be the new Apple iPhone 7 has appeared online. The uploader of the video claims that it was shot on one of Foxconn’s assembly lines.

The short clip quickly shows the front and back of the supposed prototype, before someone off camera shouts “Hey!” and the video goes black. Whoever shot the video is dressed as an assembly line worker, and you can catch a glimpse of what looks like the Foxconn logo on his or her sleeve. Foxconn operates three factories in China where iPhones are assembled. For what it’s worth, Foxconn has experienced worker unrest in the past, so this video could be the handiwork of a disgruntled laborer.

On the other hand, the whole thing seems more than a little suspicious. It’s really convenient that we get a look at both sides of the phone, and the quick shot of the Foxconn logo, right before the person off camera yells out. There’s also a lot that would have had to have gone right for this video to be uploaded from inside the factory. We’d either have to believe that the person who yelled—presumably a security guard—let the worker go without searching or confiscating his recording device, or that the worker had sufficient access to a Wi-Fi or data connection to upload the video live.

A glimpse of the bottom side of the alleged iPhone 7.

On the slim chance that this is legitimate, the device in the video shows the phone with a bezel-less display and no Touch ID button. The reverse side appears to show a center-mounted camera, with no flash in sight. Interestingly, there doesn’t seem to be a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom of the phone, which lends credence to the rumors that Apple is abandoning the port to make the phone thinner. Or, it’s just another little detail the video maker stuck in there to sell the hoax.

What appears to be the “leaker’s” face in the reflection of the phone.

You can see a reflection of the videographer in the frame above. It’s really grainy, and the shadow under his or her ring finger obscures the face even more. Again, for what it’s worth, most (but not all) of the images I’ve found of Foxconn workers show them with hats on.

So is it real? Doubtful. But you never know. After all, a source at Foxconn leaked photos of the iPhone 6 just last year.
