Microsoft on Thursday announced that it is bringing personalization to Outlook by adding unique, dynamic AI-powered themes.

This new AI-powered feature dubbed “Themes by Copilot” in Microsoft’s email client allows you to use generative AI to create personalized themes that reflect your personal preferences and style within your Outlook experience.

With Themes by Copilot, you can explore the world by designing themes inspired by over 100 curated destinations or creating one uniquely based on your immediate location. You can also generate themes based on the weather or location by selecting how often you want the theme to update dynamically – every few hours, every day, weekly, or monthly.

“If you’ve enabled location permissions in Outlook, the My Location theme will bring you imagery uniquely inspired by your locale, dynamically updating for you as you head out the door on a trip or vacation,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post on Thursday.

“Similarly, a dynamic theme based on the weather would be updated to reflect the current weather conditions where you are.”

Further, every Copilot-generated theme includes a fun accent color by default, which can be customized to appear in realistic, oil painting, or cartoon styles.

“To help you shape your theme, we created a guided experience that is easy to use, responsible, and fun. Copilot-powered themes are available in the languages that Outlook supports. No two Themes by Copilot in Outlook are the same. Every creation is unique, dynamic, and exclusively yours — an experience only available on Outlook,” the company added.

To access the new Themes by Copilot, you need to turn on the AI-generated feature in Outlook’s Appearance Settings.

Starting November 7th, all Copilot Pro consumer subscription users and business accounts with Copilot enabled will have access to these AI-powered themes. They will also be available on iOS and Android apps, Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the Web, and Outlook for Mac.

For those who do not have a Copilot license, Microsoft has released a collection of new non-Copilot powered themes, including green, red, and purple themes. These new image themes are available across Outlook for Mac, Outlook on the Web, the newest Outlook for Windows, and Outlook for iOS and Android.
